3 Steps to Refocus Your Trust When You See the “Signals”
When you refocus your trust on God’s power to fulfill His promises, you can experience a unique peace that goes beyond the chaos of life.
“Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God,
but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully
persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”
Romans 4:20-21 (NIV)
Life can sometimes feel like a whirlwind, with worries and doubts swirling around us like strong winds. Have you ever noticed those moments when your stomach tightens up or your chest feels heavy, and your mind races with “what-ifs”? Those moments when you’re suddenly anxious?
I have two main areas where this is happening for me lately.
First, in my business. What if I don’t get a client? It’s not working. Should I quit and get a job? Why can’t I get more done in a day? What if no one likes my podcast? What if I say something wrong?
Second, with my kids. My two boys got married this year and my two girls are both starting rigorous schooling. When I know one of them is struggling with something, my mind races with what-ifs. Will God be able to turn their heart to Him? Will they choose Him over the world? How will they make it through arguments, moves, and challenges?
My worries and doubts are signals
When these doubts and worries creep in, I’m learning to take a step back and check in with myself. I’m seeing MY worries and doubts as signals. They signal me to STOP. To pause. To check-in. I ask, “Where is my trust right now? Am I putting it in God?”
True peace, the peace that transcends circumstances and offers a deep sense of fulfillment, is found in actively participating in God’s work. It’s about aligning our choices with His will, just as Abraham aligned his steps with God’s call.
When we put our trust in God’s promises and actively respond to His calling, we become participants in His redemptive plan for creation. This participation brings a profound sense of purpose and peace that surpasses all understanding.
Choose to respond to God’s calling
His calling here is to TRUST, to intentionally choose Him to place my trust in. Trusting in Him doesn’t mean that we forsake our responsibilities or disengage from the world around us. Rather, it means that we prioritize our relationship with God and seek His guidance in every decision we make. When we do this, our lives become a testimony to God’s faithfulness and the transformative power of trusting in Him.
In the midst of the busyness and chaos, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters – our connection with God and our role in His grand plan. When I feel overwhelmed by the noise of life, the draw of the world, the thoughts in my mind, and my physical responses to my worrying, I remind myself to STOP. I take a moment to pause, reflect, and choose afresh where I’m placing my trust.
In the Bible’s story about Abraham, it talks about how he faced uncertainty too. But he chose not to waver in his belief in God’s promises. In fact, he became even stronger in his faith. The verses in Romans 4:20-21 remind us of Abraham’s unshakable trust: “Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.“
Abraham’s faith wasn’t just about stopping the worry or figuring out the unknown, it was about redirecting those thoughts toward his trust in God. In the face of uncertainty, he found strength in God’s power to fulfill His promises.
This year with my business I’ve named God as my CEO. I have meetings with Him to ask for His vision and direction. What does he want me to do this week? This day? Who will he put in my path to connect with or coach? How does He want me to help others? Regularly, as I notice the “signals” (my worry, doubt, tight chest), I STOP and hold out my hands. I give Him not only control but ALL of my trust. He knows. He sees. He provides… Always.
In Your Life
What’s your current area of concern? Is it your marriage, your next move, your health, addiction, job, money, or something else? Whatever it is, know that you have the choice to…
- STOP when you notice the “signals” – those worries that come knocking.
- Take a moment to pause and reflect.
- Ask yourself where your trust lies.
- Recenter and focus your trust in God, the One who holds the world in His hands.
In His Word
Recite Romans 4:20-21: “Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”
Make it your personal prayer: “God, help me not to waver through unbelief and worry regarding your promises. Help me see and actively place my trust in YOU, fully persuaded that You have the power to do what You promise. Strengthen me in my faith. Help me give glory to you.”
In the fast-paced world we live in, let’s stand out as believers who respond differently. Let’s be active participants in God’s work of trusting fully, just like Abraham. When we choose to trust in God’s power to fulfill His promises, we experience a unique peace that goes beyond the chaos of life.
We Recommend
Choose a scripture like Romans 4:20-21 to recite, pray, and meditate on daily for this week.
Dear Lord, in the midst of life’s chaos and worries, help me remember to use my emotions and my what-ifs as signals. Help me to STOP and refocus my trust in You. Just like Abraham, may I be fully persuaded of Your power to fulfill Your promises. May my trust in You guide my choices and lead me to be an active participant in Your divine plan. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
