God’s Strength in My Chaos
Club31Women is honored to showcase the winning pieces from the COMPEL Writers Training competition, featuring heartfelt devotionals written by emerging Christian writers. COMPEL equips women with the tools and confidence to write words that matter—and these devotionals are a beautiful reflection of that mission.

“Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best
in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that
the power of Christ can work through me.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT)
“Jesus, take the wheel!” This wasn’t a catchy Carrie Underwood tune — it was a deep, guttural sob that tore from my chest and echoed through the quiet of my kitchen.
It was my husband’s first day back at work after the birth of our third child. I was thick in newborn life — only this time, I was officially outnumbered. Alone at home with a baby, a toddler, and a child with special needs, I was barely holding it together.
Through the fog of postpartum hormones and sleepless nights, I tried to juggle tantrums, endless nursing sessions, tube feeds, and the constant demands of motherhood.
Tears, this time mine, streamed down my face like a river. “I can’t keep up, Lord! I’m just not strong enough to handle all of this. I need Your help!”
A Lie We Believe
In a world of social media highlight reels — spotless kitchens (with white furniture!), Pinterest-worthy meals, women who raise children, run businesses, and still look fabulous — I felt crushed under the lie that I should be doing more. That if I couldn’t handle it all, I must be failing.
Failing as a mom.
Failing as a wife.
Failing as a business owner.
But it was in that moment of utter weakness that a wave of peace swept over me.
Who said I had to do it all? Who said I needed to be strong, put-together, and unshakable?
His Power, Not Mine
Right then, the words God once spoke to the Apostle Paul rang like a bell in my heart:
“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”
Oh, what a breath of fresh air to my weary soul. I didn’t have to fake strength or perform perfection — because God’s power shows up best when I am weak.
Sister, maybe you’ve felt this too. Maybe you’ve been sold the same lie — that strength means never struggling, never slowing down, never needing help.
But what if God is inviting you to surrender instead? What if admitting your weakness is the very place His strength begins?
Will you let Him meet you there?
In His Word
“That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:10 (NLT)
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27 (NLT)
Meditate on these verses today. Ask God to replace your pressure to be “enough” with the truth of His strength and the peace that only He can provide.
In Your Life
Do you find it hard to let yourself feel “weak”?
What’s one area where you sense God inviting you to stop striving and let Him be strong for you?
Take a few quiet minutes to surrender it to Him in prayer. He’s not expecting perfection — just your heart.
