You Are Called by Name: Finding Your Worth in God’s Word
“But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”
Isaiah 43:1 (ESV)
Have you ever felt like you’ve lost your footing? Fear and doubt whisper louder than faith, your confidence fades, and you wonder if your voice matters. I know that feeling.

In college, when I gave my life to the Lord, in the early years of marriage, and while raising our three children and homeschooling them, I felt capable. Life felt manageable.
But adoption brought huge unforeseen challenges. Trauma entered our lives in ways I was not prepared for, exposing my own weaknesses and sinfulness. Slowly, I began to shrink, doubting my worth and my voice.
It was in this struggle that God’s Word gently reminded me of what is true: “I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.” Even when I feel small or unseen, His voice calls me back. I am chosen. I am redeemed. And in that quiet, steadying truth, my heart remembers: I belong to Jesus Christ, our King, and His love will never let me go.
Friend, maybe you need that reminder today. Here are some truths from Scripture to anchor you when fear, doubt, or feelings of insignificance creep in.
1. You Are Redeemed and Beloved
Romans 5:8 “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
No matter what life or your own thoughts make you feel, God’s truth never changes: you are loved and redeemed. Jesus saw you in your sin and chose you anyway, giving His life so you could belong to Him. Your worth comes not from what you do or how you feel, but from who Jesus says you are: His beloved child.

2. Your Life Has Meaning and Purpose
Ephesians 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Even when you feel lost, your life is not random. God made you intentionally, placed you exactly where you are, and gave you gifts meant for His glory. The quiet moments, the small spaces, the seemingly ordinary tasks are all opportunities to bloom where He planted you.
Your purpose is not about earning the approval of man. It’s about walking in what He made you to do, trusting that He sees it all.
3. Your Confidence Comes from Him
Ephesians 3:20 “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”
Even simple choices, like speaking up, making a decision or stepping into the unknown, can feel intimidating. Fear and doubt whisper that you are not enough. But you do not rely on your own strength. True confidence comes from remembering who you are in Christ.
You can step forward boldly because the mighty God of the universe lives in you through His Holy Spirit. His power is at work in you and is stronger than any fear, greater than any doubt, and ready to equip you for all He calls you to do.
Your place in this world is not determined by how visible you are. It’s determined by whose you are. In Christ, you belong to Him. You are deeply loved.
Our family has walked through some very difficult years. Our adopted daughter rebelled, grew up, and struggled deeply. But by God’s grace, the last three years have been a season of rest and healing as she has stepped into adulthood and is now living on her own. God has written her testimony and drawn her back to Himself. He has restored her relationship with Him and restored our relationship as well.
He truly is the God who calls His children by name and never lets them go.

Sometimes the struggle is not what we believe about Christ, but the noise in our own minds. When fear or doubt whisper that you’re not enough, Scripture and prayer can anchor your heart. Here are three simple prayers to remember who you are in Christ
Pray for His Peace – Zephaniah 3:17
Lord, quiet my anxious heart and remind me that You are in my midst. Rejoice over me with gladness and let Your love calm every restless thought.
Pray for Truth – 2 Corinthians 10:5
Lord, help me take every thought captive and align it with Your Truth. Replace the lies and doubts in my mind with the truth that I am Yours and deeply, deeply loved.
Pray for Surrender – Matthew 11:28-30
Lord Jesus, I lay my worries and burdens at Your feet. Help me take Your yoke and learn from You, finding rest for my soul. Remind me to put You first in every thought, choice, and moment today.
In Your Life
Consider a few ways to anchor yourself in His truth.
Stay rooted in Scripture. Let God’s Word remind you of who you are. Speak truth to yourself throughout the day: “I am God’s; I am redeemed; I am called by name.”
Lean on His strength. When fear or feelings of insignificance arise, recite Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
Trust in quiet faithfulness. Every act done for God matters, even when unseen. He notices, values, and uses it.
