Waiting Makes You Strong
Waiting is tough and rarely comfortable. But it is in the lingering where we find God’s strength in us. It is in the waiting God moves.
“but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.“
Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)
Waiting is a hard process but not impossible with God.
I remember staying up all night long on Christmas Eve. Not because I wanted a sneak peek at my presents but because I was just so excited about Christmas morning!
For me, waiting was something I looked forward to. It meant that I was going to get something amazing. In recent years, I’ve learned a lot more about waiting. It hasn’t been so fun. As I’ve grown older waiting became harder.
Waiting for a glimmer of hope only to hear the words “There’s no heartbeat.”
Waiting for miraculous healing but getting the phone call saying “Your father’s gone.”
Waiting for help to come just to look around you and see no one by your side.
I’ve definitely felt weary and weak. And there have been many times I was ready to faint. I’ve learned to find comfort and hope in the words of the prophet Isaiah.
Waiting Makes You Strong
I used to think waiting was all about the prize. Doing my time until I got my reward. But that’s not really the whole picture.
Waiting is about faith and trust. Growing stronger in my belief that God keeps His promises.
Hard times will come and we need to be strong to endure.
Strength helped me to walk through back to back miscarriages so that I could hold my sweet baby boy in my arms.
Strength helped me to enjoy that final year with my dad. Making memories, listening to his stories, and seeing him come to know the Lord.
Strength continues to help me when I feel completely alone. When the lack of companionship leaves me sobbing on my bathroom floor. I remember that God is always with me.
In His Word
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (ESV)
In Your Life
How do you respond to seasons of waiting? It can be tempting to complain and focus on all the bad stuff. How can you draw closer to God instead? What promises can you stand on while you wait on Him?
