3 Truths About Your Relationship With God
When my first son was born I barely had time to shower, I wasn’t taking time to eat. I couldn’t remember the last time I picked up my Bible or thought to pray something other than “Lord please let this kid go to sleep soon.” But I so desperately want to grow closer to God.
I knew that the hope and peace I was desperately seeking could only be found in Him. I wanted to climb in my Father’s lap and let Him wipe all my tears away. I knew enough of my Bible to know that God promises to see us through anything and I needed to know how true that really was.
Ten years later I was so consumed by my circumstances that I couldn’t see anything else. I knew I needed God but I didn’t know how to find him through all the pain I was feeling.
God is the answer to all our problems. In some ways, we may know this but we don’t know how to find that answer so we stumble along blindly in the darkness, trying to be good enough and measure up.
We think if we just say the right words, make the right choices that we can finally get it right. And all the while He’s there waiting for us to come to Him.
For some of us quiet time with God becomes just another thing to be stressed out about. That’s not what God wants for us!
3 Truths About Your Relationship with God
When I speak to other Christian women, I hear a lot of the same concerns when it comes to their faith. They feel like they aren’t in a place where they can devote time to Bible study or prayer: “As soon as things settle down I’m going to get back to daily devotions.”
They feel frustrated because of failures and mistakes in the past: “I joined a Bible study a few years ago but I got behind on the homework and stopped going.”
And then there are some sisters that feel like that feel unlovable and unredeemable because of the journey they’ve walked.
My heart goes out to anyone that struggles with these issues. That used to be me. But I have learned over the years that God doesn’t look at us or our situation the same way that we do.
Here are three truths that I want to share with you today

#1 God knows exactly where you are
One of my favorite passages of scripture is the story of the Woman at the Well. Jesus makes a special trip to meet her. She’s going about her everyday life when she comes upon a man waiting at the well.
Jesus knew that she would be at the well at that time of day. So He purposely went there to meet her. He does the same for us.
God knows how many children you have running around in diapers. He knows the struggles and pain you are facing raising teenagers or caring for other people. He knows about the chaos that you face every single day. In fact, it’s in those hard places that we can find Him waiting for us.
Waiting to love us and help us. To listen to everything that’s on our hearts and to give us strength, hope, and peace.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 ESV
#2 God knows all about your mistakes
If you are familiar with the story of the Women at the Well you know that she chose to go get her water in the middle of the day when no one else would be there. Why? Because she had past.
Jesus knew about this past and the sin that she was currently living in. He stopped to meet and talk with her anyway.
No matter what you have done in your life, you are not beyond the work of the cross. God sees all and knows all. He knows all the mistakes that you have made in your life.
It doesn’t matter. Why? Because getting to know God can change even the worst person’s life around for good.
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1 ESV
#3 God wants a close relationship with you anyway
God is all about relationship. He doesn’t care if you have never picked up your Bible before. Or if you aren’t sure what the right words are to say when you pray. He loves you and wants to spend time with you.
Start small. If you only have 5 minutes each day then give God those 5 minutes. God will bless you for your efforts and you will never be the same after spending time in His presence.
The Woman at the Well thought she was just going to get some water for the day but she found so much more! And then she ran back to that place that held so much pain and evangelized the whole town!
” ‘For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.’ “ John 3:16 ESV
Will you accept His invitation? Will you come to the well?
Come to the Well will empower, enable and inspire you to be consistent with prayer and Bible study so you can live a life full of joy, hope, and peace. You don’t need any special skills or tools. Just a willing heart, something to write with, and something to write on. You can journal your way to a closer connection with God. And when you do that, the possibilities are endless.
