You Are Chosen {and How That Changes Everything!}

Recently I was randomly chosen to win a free trip! To be specific, a weeklong vacation in a condo in Colorado! I know what you’re thinking— “Scam!”
That would have been my first thought, except I knew that it was real because I had actually entered the drawing at a fundraiser event I attended. However, I never, and I mean NEVER, win anything so it was still quite a surprise.
I just couldn’t help but to immediately share the news with my family and everyone else.
I mean who doesn’t enjoy a free—anything— but especially a free trip that can accommodate my entire family?
A Gift Has No Strings Attached
Here’s the best part, there is no small print or outrageous regulations that I need to be aware of. When we show up, I fully expect the details, including the payment, to already be taken care of!
I know we have only been given a certain amount of time to enjoy our stay, and I intend to make the most of it. Now, I also know that our temporary stay does not grant us ownership and while we are there we are expected to take care of the place that we’ve been given!
Now, I don’t tell you about my free trip to brag. After all, how can I brag about something that I had nothing to do with receiving? This trip is a gift and quite frankly I did nothing to deserve it.
Yes, I chose to attend the event. I spent my time connecting with old friends, making new ones, and eating lots of finger foods. However, I no longer simply remember the snacks from the night, but that evening is forever marked by the fact that I was chosen!
I can’t help but smile when I think about those three words. “I was chosen.” Yes, I am thrilled for the trip but you and I have been chosen for so much more than a vacation.
Our lives have been forever marked by those same three words.
I Chose You
John 15:16 says,
You did not choose me [Jesus], but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
When you know you have been chosen to receive something that you did nothing to earn, everything changes.
Friends, you have been chosen. Have you accepted your gift?
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—
Ephesians 2:8
If you have, then rest knowing that the Giver of Life has already worked out the details on your behalf.
I encourage you to show up, make the best of the time you have, and steward the gifts He has given you.
When I am feeling inadequate in my parenting, in my work, or even in my ministry, I go back to the moment everything changed—the day I found out that I was chosen.
What It Means to Be Chosen
Here are 4 things to remind yourself and share with your kids on what it means to be chosen as God’s child through the free gift of salvation!
- It wasn’t your idea to start with and it wasn’t random! God thought it up and He meant for it to happen. Your very being is on purpose.
- The payment, as well as the details, have been taken care of. There is absolutely nothing you can do to pay God back.
- You are responsible for what you have been given. God gave you this gift for your benefit, but remember, it wasn’t just for you. The Lord is trusting you to make the most of your time.
- You have to show up. This journey will require some walking by faith – acting like God is telling the truth – to fully grasp the award that has your name on it.
Here’s a fun way to remind your daughter of God’s Truth for her life, including the fact that she too is chosen!
