A family friend gently asked our son about his exp

A family friend gently asked our son about his experience with his youngest sister.
Was it hard growing up and dealing with all her difficulties?

“No, I’ve never thought of her as anything but a gift,” he replied.

Simply a gift. 💝

I won’t say I was surprised by his answer, but couldn’t help feeling relief all the same.

What parent wouldn’t wonder if the others ever felt a bit sorry? 😞
Considered the many family activities that were necessarily compromised - or missed out on altogether - to accommodate our special girl.

Matt and I have never minded---but then again, we’re her parents. Her siblings, on the other hand, never signed up for this.

But from their perspective, the blessings are far greater than the challenges. And the sweetness far exceeds the setbacks. Their service to her - a joy. 💞

These are not things I could’ve seen coming when we first got the “news” of our baby girl.
Words like “trauma” and “severe” and “disabilities” were spoken over her situation.
Where “beautiful” and “tender” and “abilities” could’ve been said. And “loved.” 🤗

Sometimes what appears to be a tragedy turns out to be something quite different instead.

A gift.

So I hope the same for you – whatever situation or challenge you might be walking through - that you too will know you are loved. ❤️

This gale of life that has come swooping in the la

This gale of life that has come swooping in the last five months has left me breathless, with the world on my shoulders, feeling as if the wind had been knocked out of me.

I stood right there on the edge of a breakdown that day, while a crowd of people were waiting for me to speak.

In my mind, I was feeling as if I would internally shut down and not be able to utter one word that made a speck of sense.

And then I stopped and remembered this feeling. I stopped and remembered what I had been working on to change the process, so my busy didn’t become a burden.

I’m “surrounded” by people, conversations, r

I’m “surrounded” by people, conversations, relationships.

Yet I still know lonely.

I know this lonely, well, and I have deep and dear friends — the kind who see me weep and I’m not embarrassed afterward, the ones that sign up with me for the battle I’m fighting, the kind who know my repeated sin, my unmentionable pain, the things I’d like to keep secret.

And yet, I still know this lonely.

I’m desperate to be known, to be seen at my very worst and not just acknowledged … but held, surrounded … right there.

What I crave most in my day is the “I am with you” forever and always.

To be known by Jesus.

To be KNOWN by Him.

Last month as I was pulling out my fall clothes, E

Last month as I was pulling out my fall clothes, Emily cleared her voice and said, “Mom, you have waaay too many sweaters.”

It’s kinda true if one believes you CAN have too many sweaters. But, oh, I love all the chunky sweaters, tweeds, plaids, leather boots, and cozy scarves of this season. And, ahem… she was right. I hadn’t worn many items for several years. Some were faded, pilled, out of style, and didn’t fit well. Some things just had to go.

Did you know that the Bible talks about our Christian walk in clothing language? Put off the corrupt things of the old nature (retire the grave clothes, Warren Weirsbe would say!) because you are no longer dead spiritually. You are alive in Christ!

How do we do this?

Sheer willpower?

Nope, because:

▪ On my good days, I’d be tempted towards self-sufficiency or pride, feeling pretty good about my accomplishments. And

▪ On the bad days, when I fall flat on my face, I’d be tempted toward self-loathing or self-pity.

Both extremes have the wrong focus: ME.
